Subject: call for authors to FAO Third Report on Animal Genetic
        Resources
Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2025 08:48:12 -0500
Dear colleagues,

As you may or may not be aware, FAO is currently in the process of preparing
the Third Report on the State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for
Food and Agriculture (Third Report). Most of the content of the Third Report
will be based on data provided by FAO Members. (To provide some context, the
Second Report can be viewed here https://tinyurl.com/278ryek2

In particular, information from country questionnaires will serve as the
basis for a chapter on “The state of capacities in animal genetic resources
management”. To complement the country data, each of the sub-sections of
this chapter will begin with a brief introduction summarizing the
state-of-the-art, based on the literature and other relevant sources of
information. These introductory sub-sections are intended to be very concise
summaries of recent developments of no more than a few pages in length.

The sub-sections of this chapter will address the following issues:
• Institutions and stakeholders
• State of science and technology
• Characterization, inventory and monitoring
• Breeding programmes
• Conservation programmes
• Legal and policy frameworks

The 20th Session of the Commission of Genetic Resources for Food and
Agriculture <https://www.fao.org/cgrfa/en>; invited countries to provide
support and expertise for the preparation and review of the Third Report. We
are thus searching for volunteer experts to serve as authors for these
state-of-the-art introductions.

Should you be interested in contributing, please contact us at
SOW-ANGRfao.org. In the message, indicate the topic(s) to which you wish to
contribute, along with a brief summary of your knowledge and writing
experience on the relevant topic(s). If you wish, please also attach a copy
of your CV.

Please provide this information by 1 July, at which point we will begin to
propose writing responsibilities. We aim to form small teams of regionally
balanced authors for each sub-section.

Nominations received after this date risk to lose the opportunity, although
we will be happy consider you for contributions other roles, such as a
reviewer of draft chapters of the Third Report.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions (email to either
paul.boettcher@fao.org or SOW-ANGRfao.org, NOT by replying to the listserv).

Note that this is a voluntary, non-compensated contribution, although all
authors will be clearly acknowledged in the Third Report.

Thank you and kind regards,
